When to ServiceHow often to change oil, filters and coolant — and why the answer depends on how the truck is used.

Interval depends on the job

A line-haul truck at 6.5 mpg and 10% idle is not on the same schedule as a vocational unit idling half the day. When two intervals are published, take the shorter one unless oil analysis says otherwise.

Pick your truck's year and the table hides everything that does not apply to it.

Brake adjustment and push rod stroke checkStroke must stay inside the CVSA out-of-service limit for the chamber size. Automatic slack adjusters still need checking. At every PM, and at the annual DOT inspection2005–2026Verified

Inspect shocks and air springsLook for oil weeping at the shock shaft and cracking or abrasion on the air spring bellows. Shocks are replaced in axle pairs. At every PM, and any time a tyre shows cupping2005–2026Verified
Leaf spring, U-bolt and hanger inspectionCheck for cracked leaves, worn bushings and elongated hanger holes. A clunk over bumps is usually a bushing, not the spring. At every PM; U-bolt torque re-check with the truck loaded2005–2026Verified
Chassis lubrication - kingpins, tie rods, torque rods, fifth wheelWipe each fitting clean before greasing so you do not pump dirt in. Grease until clean grease appears.Every 25,000 mi or at each PM2000–2026Verified

Air dryer desiccant cartridgeFollow the dryer manufacturer. Oil carryover from the compressor means the cartridge will fail again.Typically 2-3 years on a line-haul tractor2005–2026Unconfirmed

Where these come from: the manufacturer’s own published table for the engine in this truck, named on each row. Distance intervals assume highway miles; hour equivalents matter for high-idle and vocational duty.

Not sure which interval is yours?

Work out your average fuel economy over a month. The engine makers publish intervals by mpg band because mpg is a decent stand-in for how hard the engine works. If you do not know your mpg, use the severe-duty row.
